Eakring Mill House

A Nottinghamshire farmhouse courtyard, redefined

This project comprises the sensitive refurbishment of a dwelling within the Eakring Conservation Area, re-imagined around a traditional farmhouse courtyard. The existing building has been carefully repaired and upgraded to retain its historic character while improving comfort, efficiency and everyday usability.

A contemporary extension addresses the courtyard and garden elevations, clearly expressed yet respectful in scale, form and materials. Generous areas of glazing frame views across the landscaped gardens and surrounding countryside, drawing daylight deep into the plan and strengthening connections between inside and out.

The courtyard forms the social heart of the home, creating a sheltered outdoor room that unifies old and new, supports flexible modern living, and celebrates the quiet rural character of this sensitive heritage setting.
