A contemporary rural home rooted in the Nottinghamshire landscape.

This project in Harby demonstrates our planning-led approach to residential architecture, where a clear understanding of local planning policy and site constraints is central to achieving successful outcomes.
The proposal required careful consideration of rural planning policies, landscape context and scale, with design decisions shaped to address these challenges directly. By engaging with policy at an early stage and responding to it positively, the project was able to secure consent for a high-quality home that delivers strong long-term value and a robust planning outcome.
Designed for a young family, this self-build house sits comfortably within its rural setting, framing views across the countryside towards Doddington Hall.

Inspired by local agricultural buildings, the form and material palette draw on simple, robust barn-like proportions. Rough-sawn cedar cladding weathers naturally over time, allowing the house to blend into its landscape.

Internally, generous open-plan living spaces support modern family life, with integrated home-working areas positioned to maximise daylight and views. Carefully placed openings strengthen the connection between inside and outside, creating a calm, contemporary home with a rural character.
